To create the optimal placement process for your program, you will be empowered to make the following decisions: 

ONE

Identify Placement Application Points

At the highest level, you’ll identify at which points throughout the program students are allowed to apply for placement. We can create unique process workflows for each instance, depending upon the paperwork you need to collect and the autonomy you choose to give students at that point in their journey. 

TWO

Determine Required Paperwork

For each unique process, you’ll determine which paperwork you need to collect from every student to ensure successful and appropriate placements across the board.

Pre-Application tasks: What paperwork do you need to collect prior to students connecting with a site and supervisor? This paperwork could be used to verify a student’s readiness for practicum/internship and/or to inform the internship coordinator about students’ goals and desires for placement. 

What paperwork do you need to collect to finalize a student’s placement with their site and supervisor?

Decide Optimal Placement Workflow

Once you’ve identified the paperwork you’ll include in your placement process, you can decide which placement workflow is best for your program. 

Will students drive the placement process by identifying the sites and site supervisors they will work with?

  • If so, are students allowed to suggest new sites?
    • What additional paperwork will you need in order to vet new sites when students suggest them? 
    • What additional paperwork will you need in order to vet new site supervisors when students suggest them? 

Would you prefer a guided process in which students rank site preferences from a list of pre-approved placement sites?

If neither of the above, would you prefer to place students at a site yourself? 

  • If so, will you also place students with a site supervisor? 
  • Or, will you allow students to identify their site supervisor in the system once they have had a chance to connect with their placement site?
